Biography

Ivan Eastin, who holds a joint faculty appointment with the College of Forest Resources and the Center for International Trade in Forest Products (CINTRAFOR) at the University of Washington, will be coordinating a life cycle analysis (LCA) for the Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance (NARA) project. The LCA is part of the effort to evaluate the environmental, social, and economic viability of the overall supply chain for biojet fuel and co-products, looking at impacts “from cradle to grave.’’ Dr. Eastin is also a member of the Environmentally Preferred Products (EPP) team as well as the Community Impact team.

Eastin’s research interests include evaluating the factors that influence the introduction and adoption of new wood products, improving the marketing of lesser-used tropical hardwood species and non-timber forest products, exploring the substitution between wood and non-wood materials in the U.S. residential construction and deck building industries, understanding factors that influence the competitiveness of U.S. forest products exports, evaluating the impact of illegal logging on deforestation and forest products trade, and understanding the specification and use of wood in the Chinese forest products and home building industries.

He holds a Ph.D. in Forest Products Marketing from the University of Washington. He has served as a USAID consultant in Accra, Ghana, and also was a Fulbright Fellow in Ghana.
