As part of system performance metrics efforts for the Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance project, Todd A. Morgan has substantial research experience related to wood supply and utilization in the western United States that will benefit proposed investigations into woody biomass feedstock supply chain analysis. Since 2000, he has served as director and research assistant professor of the Forest Industry Research Program, Bureau of Business and Economic Research, School of Business Administration at the University of Montana in Missoula. His program collects and reports timber products output, logging residue, and mill residue data for 13 western states to the U.S. Forest Service’s Forest Inventory and Analysis Program.
In addition, Morgan performs timber harvesting and hauling cost analyses for the Forest Service Northern Region, providing economic impact information related to timber harvest and utilization levels throughout the West, monitoring timber processing capacity and mill operations in the West, and collecting and reporting quarterly delivered log prices and forest industry employment and production in Montana. His research program works closely with the University of Idaho in Moscow and Washington State University in the Inland Northwest Forest Products Research Consortium. Morgan is also a member of the 13-state Wood Utilization Research Program supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service. He also worked as a research silviculturist for the Texas Forest Service in Lufkin.
Morgan earned his M.S. in Forestry from the University of Montana in 1999.
