Recognized as one of the foremost authorities on timber and wood products markets in North America, Dr. Darius Adams will be working on sustainable feedstock production for the Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance. He is the developer of the forest portion of the Forest and Agriculture Sector Optimization Model (FASOM) currently used by the Environmental Protection Agency and USDA in developing policy options for U.S. climate change legislation – most recently in the Waxman-Markey and Kerry-Boxer bills. FASOM and regional analyses for the Pacific Northwest are unique in allowing assessment of potential biomass generation from both public and private forests based on current inventory data.
Dr. Darius is an emeritus professor of Oregon State University. From 1971 to present, he has served as a faculty member at OSU, University of Wisconsin, University of Montana and University of Washington. He has received numerous awards, including the national Forest Science Award from the Society of American Foresters in 1999. He also was a Distinguished Lecturer for the Department of Forestry at Virginia Polytechnic and State University in 1990.
He earned his Ph.D. in wildland resource science at the University of California, Berkeley in 1972.
