Dr. Matthew G. Betts brings nearly a decade of research experience on the topic of biodiversity in managed forests to the system performance metrics of the Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance project. He is an assistant professor of landscape ecology in the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society at Oregon State University.
Since the beginning of his career in 2002, Dr. Betts has acquired more than $3 million in research grants. In addition, he was co-editor of a book on forest management guidelines for the conservation of biodiversity. He serves as a committee member on the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Scientific Advisory Committee.
Before joining the OSU faculty, Dr. Betts worked as a postdoctoral associate at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and as a research coordinator with the Greater Fundy Ecosystem Research Group at the University of New Brunswick in Canada.
In 2005, he earned his Ph.D. in Forestry and Environmental Management from the University of New Brunswick.
