The Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance (NARA) aims to facilitate development of an environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable wood-based biofuels and co-products industry in the Pacific Northwest. During 2013/2014, NARA will examine the biofuels supply chain potential in western Washington and Oregon.

Researchers, educators, economists and business leaders gathered to attend NARA’s second annual meeting held in Corvallis Oregon September 9th -12th. This year’s meeting was structured to accomplish multiple objectives:

Laurel James, who serves as tribal partnership projects liaison for NARA, was recently honored with the “Diversity in Action Award” presented by e3 Washington. E3 is an initiative dedicated to integrate education, environment and economy in Washington State and is coordinated through the Environmental Education Association of Washington.
The state-wide award recognizes an individual, organization, or program that demonstrates cultural awareness and encourages a multicultural approach to environmental and sustainability education projects or programs.

NARA directors Ralph Cavalieri and Michael Wolcott are in route to the Paris Air Show, June 17-23 2013 to represent WSU contributions to aviation biofuels research. NARA will be prominently featured. Here is a recently developed video to be played at the event and a WSU news release.
The McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS) is a program of the University of Idaho, who is a NARA affiliate. MOSS plays a significant role in NARA’s bioenergy literacy objectives. They provide bioenergy literacy to K-12 students and educators and train graduate students to deliver bioenergy literacy training.
